1. A brief story about you

Nothing's coming right now. Maybe you and I will meet someday and it will hit me.

2. Your first/earliest visual memory?

My very first memory is me in my crib with walls going crazy. It was an earthquake. I think I was maybe one and half or maybe 2. Why did I still have a crib at 2? Was that normal? Anyways I remember the walls acting silly and then I have a visual on some turtle curtains my mom had made. My mom says the earthquake wasn't super bad, and I don't have any other memories that I can recall for another year or two. Having nightmares in my room, crawling into my parents' bed, and then laying down a log and crying about it cause I was so embarrassed. Not so much a visual memory. For me at least.

3. What or who inspired you as a kid?

I liked my grandpa a lot. He made jungle juice in his basement and gave me haircuts. I was pretty heavily influenced by Richard Scarry, Ed Emberley, Micronauts, The Peanuts, Star Wars, etc... but that hasn't really changed a bit.

4. An early poignant art making moment/experience?

The first time I remember thinking... I can really draw. Working on a crayon rendering of Mighty Mouse. Most of my childhood art is gone, lost to a mould giant. But I still have a few bits.

5. How would you describe your style and approach to your work?

Messy layers that I can tame into something I love. Sometimes I have a formed vision that I unsuccessfully render. Usually turns into something else that I like. Just not what was inside my head.

6. Message for mini budding artists?

Never stop. Most of my life people have told me that I have a special talent for making art, or that I am really gifted with painting or drawing pictures. But I'm not special in that way. I have just drawn something - made something - colored something - carved something - most days of my life. And when I don't... when I don't make art for a few days or a week. It shows. I just practice all the time doing something I love. So... do something you love and work at it to make it rad.
